Education in America

There is a serious problem with the current education system in the United States.  Children (graduating) from High Schools if they even make it that far are not equipped to be successful in the modern workplace.  Generation Y aren't quite proficient in the three R's (reading, writing and arithmetic's) social sciences like History, geography and government are also glossed over.  Needless to say they are ignorant of the basic sciences of Biology, chemistry, physics and health.  Why is it the average kid on the street can name the football MVP but not the Vice-President?  Did you know in the 1960's California had the best educational system in the world?  It schools were the best and of course the US led all other countries.  People all over the country were flocking to California for that and other reasons.  Now California ranks about 45th of the 50 states and the US ranks around 25th in World.  What happen?

Over the last generation more and more funds have been sliced from the states educational budget causing teacher layoffs, program cuts and increase class sizes.  Students aren't getting the time and resources baby boomers once had.  Social promotion replace learning subject matter and earning ones way to the next grade.  Expectations have been lower, our children are not being taught correctly.  At the same time gangs grow larger, inner cities decay more, society detiorates, crime increases and more money is funnelled into the Corrections budget.  Do you see the obvious correlation here?  Understandably fiscal budgets need to be balanced but not at the expense of our youth.  Children need a good education to survive and keep this faltering nation strong and competitive in an ever globalized economy they are our future by hurting them you are hurting us all.
